Recently we moved several pieces of equipment utilized for material preparation into the same space. While the area contained an overhead crane system and multiple outlets for tools there was no table available for working on tools and equipment. My company did, however, have an I-beam stand and some steel plate not being utilized. The resulting table is not the prettiest but it only took the use of a forklift and one afternoon of work to build.

Scrap Steel Plate
Scrap Steel Table
First sand or wire wheel any area that is going to be welded on the table prior to setting the steel sheets on them.
Utilizing a forklift, pick up steel sheets individually and place on table top. Slide the sheets into their final position.
Wire wheel or sand off all of the steel sheet areas to be welded and the top of the sheet for aesthetics.
Utilize clamps to pull the sheet tight to the table bottom.
Turn on MIG Welder, set amperage, and lay out gun.
Crawl under table and run a weld bead down the length of the table on each side and in the middle for increased strength of the top.
Utilize cutting wheel and angle grinder to cutoff excess pieces of steel sheet hanging over side of the table.
